Early diagnosis of fetal abnormality and the option of early termination of pregnancy are important to many women. First trimester screening test provides reassurance for many women who would prefer not to have an invasive procedure if risk is low.

The 11-13+6 weeks scan

Our centre provides complete biochemistry maternal serum screening of free beta h-CG and PAPP – A at 10-11+5 weeks in a certified laboratory and we also provide ultrasound of nuchal translucency and nasal bone by a sonographist certified by the Fetal Medicine Foundation (Vaclav Silhan)

We provide both complete biochemistry and ultrasound risk calculation for Morbus Down trisomy 21, trisomy 13 and trisomy 18. This type of prenatal screening gives a more than 95% detection rate for the most common genetic abnormality - trisomy of the 21st chromosome.

The 18-23 week scan

Despite enormous developments in the methods of 1st trimester screening, the 18-23 week scan is the main diagnostic tool in the prenatal detection of congenital abnormalities. The 18-23 week scan allows for examination of the external and internal anatomy of the fetus and the detection of major defects and also subtle markers of chromosomal abnormalities and genetics syndromes. Ultrasound is performed by an experienced specialist.
